“…Heart failure was induced as previously described. 17 Briefly, the left anterior descending or left circumflex coronary artery was selectively catheterised via the carotid loop under fluoroscopic guidance and the artery occluded by infusion of 0.2 ml of a mixture comprising 200 mg sterile gel foam (Upjohn, Kalamazoo, MI, USA) suspended in 5 ml sterile saline, flushed through with 5 ml contrast medium (Omnipaque, Oslo, Norway). Duplocillin (5 ml) long-acting penicillin antibiotic (Intervet, Boxmeer, Holland) was given on completion of the procedure, and the animal returned to its pen for recovery.…”
