An Organic Acid-induced Synthesis and Characterization of Selenium Nanoparticles

Abstract: A simple wet chemical method has been developed to synthesize selenium nanoparticles (size 40–100 nm), by the reaction of sodium selenosulphate precursor with different organic acids in aqueous medium, under ambient conditions. Polyvinyl alcohol has been used to stabilize the selenium nanoparticles. The synthesized nanoparticles can be separated from its sol by using a high-speed centrifuge and can be redispersed in aqueous medium with a sonicator. UV-visible optical absorption spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction,… Show more

“…These species are generally positively or negatively charged that can conjugate with NH, C=O, COO − , and C−N groups of active pharmaceutical ingredient (API), which imparts SeNPs superior adsorptive capacity to load, stabilize, and deliver drug. 99 In general, Se-based nanoparticles can be manufactured through the following two approaches: 1) in situ formation via reduction 100 and 2) fabrication on the base of nanoparticles, 101 as illustrated in Figure 4. In the former, SeNPs are synthesized from different precursor materials, reducing agents, and stabilizers through a chemical reaction.…”

“…Obtained wet biomass (0.5 g), was re-suspended in a 250 cm 3 Erlenmeyer flasks with 100 cm 3 of 100 mg/dm 3 aqueous cobalt selenite solution (analytically pure, Merck, Darmstadt, DE) for synthesis of selenium nanoparticles. The resultant mixtures were put into the shaker repeatedly at between 28-30°C for different periods of time (24-72 h).…”
