An open and scalable architecture for delivering 3D shared visualization services to heterogeneous devices

Abstract: SUMMARYShared visualization environments represent an effective means to enhance collaborative work in engineering and scientific design tasks. The availability of high-speed networks allows researchers to work together from geographically distributed locations, and mobile devices are able to carry out ubiquitous 3D visualization tasks through wireless network connections. This paper presents a scalable architecture for the delivery of shared 3D visualization services to heterogeneous terminals ranging from po… Show more

“…The RAVE system aims to choose appropriate rendering services, either remotely or locally, based on the rendering capabilities of the client. More recent work in this area has proposed a scalable architecture for shared visualization across heterogeneous devices . In a related area, the use of a personal digital assistant (PDA) as a client for remotely steering a computational simulation has been investigated by Kalawsky and colleagues .…”

“…Other solutions are proposed in [24][25][26][27][28][29]. Furthermore, control-theoretic approaches have been investigated to improve QoS in live video streaming [30,31] for highly interactive systems, such as remote visualization services [32]. The basic idea is to design closed-loop controllers to automatically adapt streaming parameters to bandwidth fluctuations.…”
