An OFDMA-based MAC protocol for under water acoustic wireless sensor networks

Abstract: In this study, we introduce a novel OFDMA-based MAC protocol for underwater acoustic sensor networks. The design approach of this protocol exploits the multi-path characteristics of a fading acoustic channel. The goal is to convert the channel into parallel independent acoustic sub-channels that undergo flat fading. Communication between node pairs within the network is then done using subsets of these sub-channels thus fully utilizing the available limited bandwidth while avoiding interference completely. We … Show more

“…Moreover, channel characteristics vary with time due to random signal fluctuations. These include surface scattering due to waves, which is the most important contributor to the overall time variability of the shallow water channel [9]. The depth of water is a serious factor impacting UWSN.…”

“…In the literature of UWSN MAC protocols, there are three types: CONTENTION-FREE, CONTENTION-BASED, 8 and HYBRID MAC 9,10 protocols. For the first type, there are protocols based on three multiple access techniques such as FDMA, 11 TDMA, [12][13][14] and CDMA. 15,16 The second protocols type are classified into random access and handshaking protocols that have the advantage of using the full bandwidth of the communication channel.…”

“…Many researchers and practitioners work on identifying cloud threats, vulnerabilities, attacks, and other security and privacy issues, in addition to providing countermeasures in the form of frameworks, strategies, recommendations, and service oriented architectures (e.g., [2,[8][9][10][11][12][13]). Additionally, efforts in other domains such as ad hoc networks have been tuned to address the emerging security problems in the clouds (e.g., [14][15][16][17][18]). Many researchers (e.g., [1,[19][20][21][22][23][24][25]) have addressed single attributes of cloud computing security such as data integrity, authentication vulnerabilities, auditing, etc.…”
