“…The activities of these components rarely been reported in the past, although a large number of reports revealed essential oil of numerous herbs enriched in these chemicals have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, and antimicrobial activities 47 55 . It was noteworthy that β-elemene could pass through the bloodbrain barrier and treated cerebral malignancy 56 . Together with the previous studies, we can confirm that the anti-inflammatory and antinociceptive effects of OR could be attributed to the single or synergic action of these main components in the oil.…”

“…β-elemene enhances cellular uptake of taxanes due to the alteration of cell membrane permeability may partly account for its synergistic effects with taxanes [131]. Elemene inhibits the growth of human epidermoid and thyroid cancer cells in vivo [133], and passes through the blood-brain barrier [134], suggesting its potential for treating cerebral malignancy.…”

“…In spite of such modification in regimen, the clinical outcome of our study was in agreement with the previous reports. 29,30 In spite of the small number of cases reviewed in the current study, the data strongly suggest that for treatment of recurrent gliomas CT-guided precise 125 I interstitial implantation holds advantages over conventional options. These advantages include precision of radiation location, less cerebral damage and fewer complications.…”
