An investigation of dynamic recrystallisation on Cu–Sn bronze using 3D EBSD

Abstract: A focused ion beam and electron backscatter diffraction were used to investigate the three-dimensional microstructure of small dynamically recrystallised grains in a deformed Cu–Sn alloy and to determine their orientation relationships. It was found that many of the grains, which form as thin sheets at the prior boundaries, are twin related. It is concluded that dynamical recrystallisation usually starts in regions where plastic deformation has resulted in significant lattice rotations beside the grain boundar… Show more

“…S3 (supplement) schematically illustrates the experimental set-up. The sample was mounted on a 36 °pre-tilted sample holder in order to minimise the tilt movements between the position of milling and EBSD scan [29] . To start, the position of the sample holder was adjusted in the vertical direction so that the working distance for two positions was kept at 4 mm.…”

“…Other studies attempted to explain this model on the basis of dislocation density, grain boundary energy, and diffusion velocity [13][14][15]. These models have been validated for steel [16][17][18][19][20][21], copper [22][23][24], nickel [25], aluminum [26], and various alloys [27][28][29][30][31][32][33]. However, there are only a few experimental reports on the deformation behavior relating to the DRX in pure lead [34][35][36].…”

“…The electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) technique has been proved to be a powerful tool on characterisation of grain orientation and twinning relationships. 6,7 McCabe and Proust studied the contribution of twinning to the total plastic strain of zirconium compressed at 76 K. 8 Dudamell et al systematically examined the influence of orientation on the predominant deformation mechanism and the recovery behaviour happening during the rolling process of AZ31 sheet. 9 In this study, the EBSD technique was utilised to research the twinning systems and the dependence of twinning on the matrix orientation in commercial purity titanium (CP-Ti) during low to medium levels of tensile deformation.…”

“…However, a detailed interpretation has not been developed to explain the influence of critical shear stress and Schmid factor on the microstructural evolution of hcp structure materials. The electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) technique has been proved to be a powerful tool on characterisation of grain orientation and twinning relationships 6,7. McCabe and Proust studied the contribution of twinning to the total plastic strain of zirconium compressed at 76 K 8.…”
