“…This is clearly indicated by the petrology and geochemistry of magmas from monogenetic eruptions, which evidence certain degree of differentiation in most cases and occasional assimilation of crustal rocks that occurred at different depths (Thirlwall et al, 2000;Klügel et al, 2005;Stroncik et al, 2009;Valentine and Hirano, 2010;Brenna et al, 2011;Rowe et al, 2011;Hernando et al, 2014;Albert et al, 2015Albert et al, , 2016Klugel et al, 2015). These intermediate reservoir zones, which will normally be located at rheological or structural discontinuities inside the lithosphere, do not need to be stable or permanent along the whole history of the volcanic field.…”

“…The majority of xenoliths are from the areas of Volcán Pericutin (McBirney et al, 1987;Rowe et al, 2011) and a few from Volcán Colima (Valdez-Moreno et al, 2006). The xenoliths of Paricutin are fragments of siliceous igneous rocks, with granite, granodiorite, and quartz monzonite being most common.…”

“…Sphene, zircon, and apatite are the common accessory minerals in these xenoliths (McBirney et al, 1987). The chemical composition of these xenoliths indicates a depletion in high field strength elements (HFSE) and enrichment in large-ion lithophile elements (LILE) relative to the whole-rock lava composition (Rowe et al, 2011). The xenoliths from volcano Colima are gabbroic and granitoid xenoliths found in prehistorical lava flows and are considered to be representative of the basement beneath Colima volcano (Valdez-Moreno et al, 2006).…”

“…In particular, it allows the tracking of changes in melt composition as magma crystallizes at shallow levels (Cervantes & Wallace 2003a, b;Rowe et al 2011a, b). In Mexico, few studies have documented pre-eruptive volatile contents in melts from monogenetic eruptive products, and these studies have focused primarily on volcanoes from the Michoacán -Guanajuato volcanic field (MGVF; Luhr 2001;Pioli et al 2008;Johnson et al 2008Johnson et al , 2009Johnson et al , 2010Rowe et al 2011a) with only one study in the SCVF (Xitle; Cervantes & Wallace 2003a, b). This work provides the first pre-eruptive volatile data (H 2 O, CO 2 , S and Cl) for melts from Pelagatos volcano.…”
