An Intrinsic Interference Mitigation Scheme for FBMC-QAM Systems

Abstract: Quadrature amplitude modulation-based filter-bank multicarrier system (FBMC-QAM) is a promising new radio access technology for the upcoming 5G standalone standard (5G-NR SA). By way of highly localized prototype filters, FBMC-QAM system is able to achieve low out-of-band (OOB) radiation and high spectral efficiency without the cyclic prefix (CP), at the price of non-orthogonality between adjacent subcarriers, intrinsic interferences, and bit error rate (BER) degradation. As an attempt to mitigate these impair… Show more

“…The multidimensional residual interference drawback of FBMC QAM is overcome by making use of ML detection that is introduced in the work by Sim et al (2019), which is based on MIMO at the receiver end; also, its enhanced BER performance with computational complexity is examined. To overcome the drawbacks of orthogonality loss as well as quality degradation, a precoding framework for FBMC QAM has been presented in the work by Lee (2019).…”

“…Other authors have instead presented work on the FBMC-QAM variant. We can enumerate the low complexity recoding scheme to maximize the signal-to-leakage-to-noise (SLNR) power ratio presented in [47] and the new QAM-FBMC waveform which provides a high spectrum confinement and spectral efficiency higher for the proposed 5G communication [48]. In [49], the transceiver architecture, QAM-FBMC signal model, channel estimation error, RF degradation and phase noise are modeled.…”
