An Intelligent Vertical Handoff Decision Algorithm for Heterogeneous Wireless Networks

Abstract: Abstract. The next generation wireless systems will consist of heterogeneous networks from cellular, Wi-Fi, WiMAX to other emerging access technologies. Vertical handoff occurs when a mobile terminal decides to switch between networks. One of the challenging problems during vertical handoff is the selection of an optimal network that maximizes end users satisfaction. This paper presents an intelligent vertical handoff decision algorithm that selects the target network based on the traffic class of the mobile u… Show more

“…Anupama carries out an intellectual VHDP that prefers the target heterogenic network depend on mobile user traffic. (Anupama et al , 2014) The algorithm evaluated by exploiting the two modules, one to appraise the handoff condition and second to choose the ideal system by FL with genetic algorithm to stay on an insightful VHDP.…”

“…For example, Wang et al proposed in [32] a Continuous Time Markov Decision Process to optimize the revenue generated by the cloud infrastructure by determining the optimal CPU power depending on client requests and energy consumption. In [33], the authors propose a discrete time MDP where, at each time point, the user will have to choose whether he wishes to keep using the current networking technology or switch to another (e.g., from WLAN to 4G).…”

“…The practical use of vertical handover rapidly grew as mobile devices like smartphones were widely used. References [4][5][6][7] provided various intelligence-based solutions for proper vertical handover between macrocells and supplement access points such as pico/femtocells and Wi-Fi APs. They used various parameters related to link quality of each access point, such as signal strength, bit error rate, bandwidth size, and jitter level.…”
