In this paper, a reconfigurable, low component count high-gain battery integrated dc-dc boost converter (HGBIBC) is proposed for power management of time-varying loads (TVLs). The battery is integrated between the two switches and the two diodes, which provides an inherent feature of pulse-charging and pulse-discharging of the battery, thereby increasing its lifetime. The converter operation, in various modes, is explained, and the steady-state and timedomain analyses are performed to establish the high-voltage gain feature of the converter, which makes it suitable for interfacing sources with low output voltages. The guidelines for the design of converter parameters and selection of switching devices are presented. Small-signal models are derived, and the relative gain array (RGA) analysis is performed, which revealed that the control loops are of decoupled nature and hence the controllers, for each loop, can be designed independently, as in the case of a single-input single-output (SISO) converter. The PID controllers are designed to simultaneously regulate the load voltage and source current. The theoretical concepts developed in the paper are validated experimentally using the laboratory prototype of the converter. The experimental results, demonstrating power management, at load voltages of 60 and 48 V are presented, which are found to be in close correlation with the theoretical and simulation studies. Design and implementation of a battery charger with a state-of-charge estimatorTIAN-HUA LIU{{, DER-FA CHEN{ and CHUN-CHIEH FANG{ In this paper, a novel integrated system for a battery charger with a state-of-charge estimator is proposed. First, by using a 16-bit MC80196 microprocessor, two di erent methods for estimating a battery's state-of-charge are presented. Then, the current of the charger is adjusted according to the estimated result. The charger, which has a zero current switching topology, performs with both a high input power factor and a high e ciency. In addition, the microprocessor e ectively integrates the charger and the state-of-charge estimator. Several experimental results validate the theoretical analysis.

Summary The advancement and deployment of electric vehicle (EV) technologies are considered as an emergent solution to meet the current and future energy crises. The electrification of transportation systems is a promising approach to green the transportation systems and to reduce the issues of climate change. This paper investigates the present status, latest deployment, and challenging issues in the implementation of EV infrastructure, charging power levels, in conjunction with several charging power topologies, and analyzes EV impacts and prospects in society. In this study, the on‐board and off‐board categories of charging systems with unidirectional and bidirectional power flow comparison are addressed. Moreover, an extensive analysis of unidirectional and bidirectional chargers is presented. Unidirectional charging offers hardware limitation and reduces the interconnection issues. Bidirectional charging provides the fundamental feature of vehicle‐to‐grid technology. Furthermore, the beneficial and harmful impacts of EVs are categorized with remedial measures for harmful impacts and prolific benefits for beneficial impacts.
