An insight into the therapeutic potential of piperazine-based anticancer agents

Abstract: The piperazine ring system is among the medicinally important nitrogen-containing heterocyclic ring systems and is exploited for the synthesis of various drug molecules. A number of FDA-approved anticancer drugs contain piperazine rings and thus it is considered as an attractive scaffold having extraordinary potential for the development of new anticancer agents. In recent decades there has been an alarming increase in the number of people suffering from cancerous diseases all over the world, which resulted in… Show more

“…Moreover, organic and inorganic precursors holding sulfone entity were found to have promising potential as biological active agents, whereas piperazine analgoues have been proposed to be a key factor enhancing biological effects of the bearing molecules. Most important, the piperazine‐based anticancer agents include abemaciclib, bosutinib, brigatinib, dexrazoxane, dosatinib, imatinib, leucovorin, olaparib, palbociclib, ponatinib, rociletinib, venetoclax, and trabectidin, and so forth . Thus, we have aimed to prepare chrysin‐sulfonylpiperazine derivatives in the present research to gain enhanced biological significance.…”

“…Therefore, piperazine derivatives are reported to possess a wide range of pharmacological properties [51,52] the most predominant being the anti-helminthic [53]. Other activities like anti-allergic [54], antimalarial [55][56][57], antimicrobial [58][59][60], antiemetic [61], antipsychotic [62], anticancer [63][64][65], anti-Alzheimer's [66,67], antihelminthic [68,69], CNS activities [70] etc. are also reported.…”
