An Improving Hysteresis Current Control Method Based on FOC Technique for Induction Motor Drive

Abstract: The paper presents an improving speed control method using a field-oriented control (FOC) technique for the hysteresis current (HC) controller in the induction motor drive. The basic principle of a controller applying hysteresis band current is comparing reference currents and the measured currents to generate switching pulses for controlling an inverter. In the typical FOC for the HC controller, the rotor flux angle’s value will increase to infinity due to the integral algorithm’s error accumulation. This pro… Show more

“…The field-oriented control (FOC), a typical method belonging to the vector control group, is a modern technique for IMDs. IMDs applying the FOC technique can precisely control torque and rotor flux based on the orthogonal current components in the rotation coordinate system [7][8][9][10]. For operating efficiently, an IMD controlled by the FOC algorithm requires proper feedback signals from sensors, including two current sensors and a speed encoder.…”

“…In the stationary coordinate [α, β], the machine equations are described as follows: The FOC method is utilized to speed control based on independent control of rotor flux and torque by separating the current space vector into two perpendicular components [x, y]. The i Sx controls the rotor flux as the rated value, and the i Sy controls torque [9]. Figure 1 shows the separation of the stator current space vector in detail.…”

“…The FOC is a modern method for the speed controlling of IMDs. The IMs using the FOC method can accurately control both the torque and the flux by applying the orthogonal compo-nents of the current vector corresponding to a rotation coordinate line in the rotor flux [7][8][9][10]. An IMD that uses precise control algorithms such as FOC will require accurate feedback from sensors, typically consisting of at least two current sensors integrated into the converter and one mounted speed sensor at the rotor shaft for obtaining efficient operation.…”
