Sensor Fault Diagnosis Method Based on Rotor Slip Applied to Induction Motor Drive

Abstract: A novel diagnosis method based on the rotor slip is proposed in the paper to correctly detect current and speed sensor failures during the induction motor drive (IMD) operation. In order to enhance reliability and avoid confusion in the diagnosis algorithm due to the influence of measured signal quality, each fault type is determined in a priority order defined by the diagnosis method. Based on the features of the IMD applying the field-oriented control (FOC) technique, an innovative model uses the measured cu… Show more

“…The research model of IMD in this paper applies the FOC strategy for motor speed control. In the FOC method, a rotation coordinate [ x , y ] with the x -axis equivalent to the rotor flux is used to separate the stator current into two perpendicular components, i Sx and i Sy , as shown in Figure 1 [ 15 ]. The current component i Sx will be controlled to maintain the rotor flux constant with the motor’s rated flux.…”

“…After the incorrectly measured signals are determined, SEPLL signals reconfigure the false signals. In articles [ 14 , 15 ], current sensor diagnosis methods based on an integration algorithm [ 14 ] and based on the rotor slip [ 15 ] are developed to detect current sensor faults in the IMD during the operation.…”

“…With precise models, diagnostic systems can be developed, as shown in the research by ref. [4], where a diagnostic method based on a rotor slip was designed to detect faults in the current and speed sensors during the induction motor operation. Another example is from ref.…”
