CeRA4HRI Ziele des Kompetenzzentrums Motivation und Anwendungsdomäne des KompetenzzentrumsRoboter sind im Allgemeinen nicht mehr ausschließlich in Fabrikhallen vorzufinden. Robotiksysteme oder zumindest einzelne Komponenten, finden sich heute bereits in technischen Systemen wie Autos oder Werkzeugen wieder. Ein angestrebtes Einsatzgebiet ist das häusliche Umfeld: Roboter sollen hier die Lebensqualität verbessern und zunehmend in Handlungszusammenhängen agieren, in denen bisher ausschließlich Menschen handelten. Motive hierfür sind einerseits der demographische Wandel und andererseits der Wunsch des Menschen, möglichst lange selbstbestimmt im gewohnten Umfeld zu leben. Es ist jedoch Fakt, dass sobald eine kontrollierte Umgebung, wie beispielsweise eine Fabrikhalle verlassen wird, sich Herausforderungen ergeben, die nur in einem interdisziplinären Vorgehen jenseits allein technischer Fragestellungen gemeistert werden können.Das hier vorgestellte Kompetenzzentrum will alle notwendigen Aspekte für den Einsatz robotischer Alltagsassistenz untersuchen, Anwendungsszenarien in Langzeitstudien evaluieren und hinsichtlich einer wirtschaftlichen Anschlussfähigkeit und gesellschaftlichen Akzeptanz umfassend untersuchen. Anhand vorhandener Forschungsroboter und Handlungsszenarien soll mit einem ganzheitlichen Ansatz ermittelt werden, an welchem Punkt wir zum alltäglichen Einsatz von Robotern für Assistenzfunktionen derzeit stehen und welche technischen und nichttechnischen Maßnahmen notwendig sind, um diese Schwelle für den Alltagseinsatz zu überschreiten. Hierbei sollen auch Kriterien bzw. Vergleichswerte festgelegt werden, denen sich die Roboter im Bereich alltäglicher Assistenz generell stellen sollen. Der Einsatz photorealistischer virtueller Umgebungen mit physikalischer Simulation (sog. "Digitale Zwillinge") dient dabei als Schlüsseltechnologie, um neue Anwendungsszenarien schnell, kosteneffizient und sicher umzusetzen.

Many studies have identified particular features of artificial intelligences (AI), such as their autonomy and emotion expression, that affect the extent to which they are treated as subjects of moral consideration. However, there has not yet been a comparison of the relative importance of features as is necessary to design and understand increasingly capable, multi-faceted AI systems. We conducted an online conjoint experiment in which 1,163 participants evaluated descriptions of AIs that varied on these features. All 11 features increased how morally wrong participants considered it to harm the AIs. The largest effects were from human-like physical bodies and prosociality (i.e., emotion expression, emotion recognition, cooperation, and moral judgment). For human-computer interaction designers, the importance of prosociality suggests that, because AIs are often seen as threatening, the highest levels of moral consideration may only be granted if the AI has positive intentions. Conversational user interfaces (CUIs) have become an everyday technology for people the world over, as well as a booming area of research. Advances in voice synthesis and the emergence of chatbots powered by large language models (LLMs), notably ChatGPT, have pushed CUIs to the forefront of human-computer interaction (HCI) research and practice. Now that these technologies enable an elemental level of usability and user experience (UX), we must turn our attention to higher-order human factors: trust and reliance. In this workshop, we aim to bring together a multidisciplinary group of researchers and practitioners invested in the next phase of CUI design. Through keynotes, presentations, and breakout sessions, we will share our knowledge, identify cutting-edge resources, and fortify an international network of CUI scholars.
