An Empirical Investigation of the Jungian Typology

Abstract: The study examines the hypothesis that in the domain of self‐report individuals will order themselves into the types postulated by Jung. It also examines the usefulness of inverse factor analysis as a technique for studying typologies. The analysis of a Q‐sort of 100 self regarding propositions yielded a number of interpretable factors. In this fashion five of the eight types postulated by Jung were identified. These factors were correlated with other characteristics of the subjects.

“…This questionnaire was administered to all the electronic group members, including my 34 students, to assess their comparative experiences with the two case experiences. In addition to completing this questionnaire for each of the two cases, they also took the Myers Briggs Indicator of their personality type [10]. These assessment tools were used to determine what the students perceived as beneficial from these two case experiences and to assess whether there were significant differences in the ratings of the two case experiences by the students.…”
