Abstract:Here is a red light-responsive half-sandwich iridium(iii) complex designed for treating hypoxic tumors through a synergistic effect involving apoptosis and ferroptosis.
“…5 It has been widely used in clinics to treat various types of cancer worldwide. 5–7 It is important to note that although cis -platin has been recognized as a successful chemotherapeutic drug, the impediments and side effects of cis -platin have steered the scientific community to focus its attention on alternative metallodrugs that have minimal side effects and enhanced efficacy against cancer. 3,8 Among the several metal complexes under investigation with the hope of potential anticancer drug candidates, ruthenium-based compounds have emerged for a broad spectrum of activity.…”
The appended aromatic ring system of the Ru–bpy complex influences cytotoxicity and apoptosis-inducing activity and could be developed as a selective chemotherapeutic drug for breast cancer treatment.
