An effort to design a power efficient, long reach WDM-FSO system

Abstract: Free Space Optics offers many advantages over different communication systems like higher bandwidth, etc. FSO is being used to overcome the drawbacks of other systems like optical and radio communication systems. FSO requires free space as the medium of communication. Attenuation caused bythe medium can degrade a system performance. To overcome the effect of these losses due to attenuation, either the data rate is decreased or the laser power is increased. ] n this article, concept of laser power is analyzed b… Show more

“…In this paper, the work has been extended from work reported in [1], [2] by presenting less input power requirement, an improved bit error rate (BER) and Q factor by using efficient optical amplifier under worst weather condition. From the results, it has been analyzed that by using SOA as amplifier, the system performs better in terms of bit error rate and quality factor with increased link distance as compared to [1] and [2].…”

“…FSO is quite similar to that of optical fiber communication, the difference is that light beam is accumulated and sent through air/free space from transmitter to receiver rather than guided through fiber cables. In FSO, Line of sight (LOS) is strictly necessary for the successful transmission of data [3]. FSO fulfills the increasing demand of high data rate and provides 2 to 10 Gb/s speed depending upon the distance and weather conditions.…”
