An Efficient Parallel Loop Self-scheduling on Grid Environments

Abstract: Abstract. The approaches to deal with scheduling and load balancing on PCbased cluster systems are famous and well-known. Self-scheduling schemes, which are suitable for parallel loops with independent iterations on cluster computer system, they have been designed in the past. In this paper, we propose a new scheme that can adjust the scheduling parameter dynamically on an extremely heterogeneous PC-based cluster and grid computing environments in order to improve system performance. A grid computing environme… Show more

“…Currently, there are many researches on predicting the task execution time in the grid environment and two methods are used to acquire it. 1) Static method [11,12]. This method just collects all kinds of computer's hardware configuration, such as CPU, memory, network bandwidth, etc, and then uses an equation to combine them; 2) Dynamic method.…”

“…An adaptive chunk self-scheduling scheme is proposed (in [13]) to reduce the scheduling overhead. In [14,15], the authors have proposed new improved self-scheduling schemes named NGSS and ANGSS that are well-suited for grids. A two-phase scheme is proposed to solve parallel regular loop scheduling problem in heterogeneous grid computing environments in [16].…”

“…In [3,24], the authors enhanced their self-scheduling schemes for clusters and applied this approach to grid platforms. However, the dynamically changing characteristic of computing grids has not been investigated.…”
