An Educational Robotics Lab to Investigate Cognitive Strategies and to Foster Learning in an Arts and Humanities Course Degree

Abstract: Abstract-The research aimed at presenting learning results on an Educational Robotics Lab carried out with university students that attended an Arts and Humanities Course Degree. In particular, cognitive abilities put into action by learners in using a Robotics Serious Game have been investigated and data has been collected by administering a pre and a post-test on motivation and using Project Based Learning (PBL) methodology. Significant results have been acquired on: (1) students' motivation in relation to t… Show more

“…Nonetheless, the definition of these skills is still ongoing (Griffin, 2014). Similar approaches are adopted in the programming field (Tømte et al, 2015, Kafai andPeppler, 2011), as well as in the Do-It-Yourself field (Guzzetti et al, 2010;Bullock and Sator, 2015), in Digital Fabrication (Buechley and Eisenberg, 2008;Bilotta, Bossio, Pantano, 2010), and in Educational Robotics (Bilotta et al, 2009;Bertacchini et al, 2010;Gabriele et al 2012;Gabriele and Bilotta, 2013;Gabriele et al, 2017;, just to cite a few. In many countries, CT formal courses in educational practice for both students and teachers have been carried out, investigating educational implications and assessment (www.atc21s.org).…”

“…Additionally, the process of planning, drafting, reviewing, and revising happens with a critical expository essay. Gabriele et al (2017) stated that the notion also centered on the strategy of self-questioning, forming imaginative illustrative visions, stimulating previous information, reading puzzling parts of texts, divining or reviewing a topic.…”

“…This research project describes an optimization workflow which combines an EMO engine (Octopus, a Grasshop-per3D extension) with parametric design, ergonomic function, material consumption, static equilibrium and structural analysis (using Karamba3D) to accelerate the design cycle and systematically generate, evaluate and explore design option in faster manner respect to conventional design process. This type of workflow, in contrast with traditional practice, generate optimized 3D model computed parametrically and developed algorithmically [19,21,39,41]. Due to the large number of alternatives produced the solutions are presented by multi-dimensional plot often related to a matrix of semi render design representing the subspace of optimum solutions.…”
