An Automatic System for China High-speed Multiple Unit Train Running Through Neutral Section with Electric Load

Abstract: Because of sectioned power supply, there are a series of no-electricity neutral sections in every electrified railway. The way of a train running through neutral section is a special challenge for railway. A technology for multiple unit train directly running through neutral section with electric load and an automatic system based on this technology are introduced in this paper. With the use of this technology, the neutral segment can be electric fed by the two adjacent feeder lines one after another, and the … Show more

“…A. Theocharis and M. Popov believed that line distributed capacitance becomes an important factor affecting the transient process of overvoltage [6]. Erik K. Saathoff obtained the effect of the closed phase angle on overvoltage and inrush current [7]. Goertz et al obtained the influence law of the capacitance-effect voltage polarity, peak value, and overvoltage wavefront time of power cables, proposing the most critical factors for the configuration of the cable in the HVDC system [8,9].…”

“…As is known, neutral sections are set every 20-30 km to realize phase switching for balancing three-phase load (Han et al, 2010). Some researchers paid much attention to the over-voltage on the pantograph or catenary and the inrush current at the reclose moment (Gao et al, 2011;Wei et al, 2011).…”

“…In the traction substation, the voltage of the three-phase grid is transformed into two-phase voltage by a transformer [3]. Due to the differences of phase, amplitude and frequency of the voltage between the adjacent arms α1 and β1 (α2 and β2), neutral sections must be set between the adjacent arms [4]. There are mainly three problems caused by neutral sections: power quality issues such as unbalance, reactive power and low-order harmonics; disturbance between locomotive and network; speed loss of the locomotive.…”
