“…Tt is therefore at present not possible to remark on the nature of the albumins and globulins of the species studied. This view is in agreement with that of Mulcahy (1970) and that of Perrier et al (1973). The latter workers suggest a completely separate nomenclature for trout plasma proteins after initial biochemical investigation.…”

“…Protein electrophoresis has been applied to serum samples from fish since 1949, using many different methods and resulting in the resolution of different fractions 1–9 . Among fish, rainbow trout ( Oncorhynchus mykiss , Walbaum) are one of the most‐studied fish.…”

“…Deutsch and McShan 1 obtained 8 protein fractions as a result of “free electrophoresis” in serum from rainbow trout ( O. mykiss ). Disk gel electrophoresis resulted in 13 main bands in rainbow trout plasma, 3,6,11 although additional bands were also reported to occur occasionally 3 . Agarose gel electrophoresis of rainbow trout plasma resulted in 11 protein fractions (3 in the albumin zone, 4 in the α‐globulin zone, 3 in the β‐globulin zone, and 1 in the γ‐globulin zone).…”

“…Species specific electrophoretograms have been found with wide individual variations as well as seasonal fluctuations evident in the concentration of each protein fraction (Uthe, Roberts, Clarke & Tsuyuki, ]966;Fourie&Hattingh, 1976;Van Vuren&Hattingh, 1976). Mulcahy (1970), Perrier, Del e r oi x , Perrier &Gras (1973) and Hattingh (1974a) have pointedout that the application of the observations pertaining to human plasma proteins cannot be directly applied to fish plasma proteins and are therefore of dubious value.…”
