An Application of the Taguchi Method (Robust Design) to Environmental Engineering: Evaluating Advanced Oxidative Processes in Polyester-Resin Wastewater Treatment

Abstract: This paper presents the Taguchi Method, a statistical design modelling for experiments applied in environmental engineering. This method was applied to optimize the treatment conditions of polyester-resin effluent by means of Advanced Oxidative Processes (AOPs) using chemical oxygen demand (COD) as response parameter. The influence of each independent parameter including respective interactions was evaluated by Taguchi Method, which allowed determining the most statistically significant variables and condition… Show more

“…Material designers and product designers can integrate Genichi Taguchi's method for robust design as an effective analysis tool for evaluating multiple parameters using the Theory of Constraints. [98][99][100][101][102][103] ISO 31000 risk management principles can be the starting point for the theory of constraints because ISO standards are internationally accredited quality standards that are widely used in the industry. 104 The effect of cold versus tropical versus semi-arid variations in temperature and humidity are design constraints that affect life cycle analysis parameters for the design of building products made from agriwaste.…”

“…To reduce the number of experiments, only a small possible set was selected. The method of selecting a limited number of experiments that produce most information is known as fractional factorial design [24]. For 81 full factorial designs (3 4 ), Taguchi used L 9 OA where 9 indicates number of trial experiments required.…”
