The study was conducted on 18 laying hens from Lohman Brown at 23 weeks of age. There were two research groups and one control group with six animals each. In the last four weeks of age, the animals were fed follows: Control group (Group C) complete diet; Group I diet containing zinc added via the biosorption process and; Group II: diet containing zinc as an organic chelate complex. The levels of short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) such as acetate, propionate, iso-butyrate, butyrate, iso-valeriate and valeriate were determined. It was observed that using a diet with additives obtained via biosorption does not have a negative influence on fermentation processes in the hen's caecum. ÖzetÇalışma 23 haftalık, 18 adet Lohman Brown ırkı yumurtacı tavuklarda yürütülmüştür. Araştırma altışarlı iki deney ve bir kontrol grubuyla yapılmıştır. Hayvanlar süreç içerisinde son dört haftada, aşağıdaki gibi beslenmiştir: Kontrol grubu (C) sadece yem; grupI çinko içeren biosorpsiyon prosesi ile, Grup II: organik şelat kompleksi olarak çinko içeren yemlerle beslenmişlerdir. Asetat, propiyonat, izo-bütirat, bütirat, izo-valeriat ve valeriat gibi kısa zincirli yağ asitlerinin düzeyleri belirlenmiştir. Burada katkı maddeleri ilave edilmiş yem kullanarak oluşturulan biozorpsiyonun tavuk körbarsağında fermantasyon prosesine olumsuz bir etkisinin olmadığı gözlemlenmiştir.

In the present work, dry plant biomass that is commonly used in horses feeding: alfalfa, chopped grass pellets and chopped grass was used as a biosorbent of microelement ions: Cr(III), Zn(II), Cu(II) and Mn(II). Biosorption process was used to potentially enhance supplementation of minerals in horses diet. In order to characterize the biosorption properties of the examined biomass, preliminary experiments (kinetics and equilibrium studies) were conducted with Cr(III) ions. The effect of pH and initial metal ions concentration (C 0 ) on the biosorption capacity (q) was investigated. On this basis, the best experimental conditions were chosen (pH 5, C S 1.0 g/L (biomass content), C 0 200 mg/L). For them, biosorption of Mn(II), Zn(II), Cu(II) ions was carried out in a periodic and continuous system (biosorption column). Equilibrium of the biosorption was described using Langmuir equation. The mineral composition of the raw and enriched biomass was also examined using ICP-OES, as well as SEM-EDX technique. In general, the best biosorption properties were observed for alfalfa. The maximum biosorption capacity for Zn(II) was 27.5 mg/g, for Cu(II)-38.5 mg/g, for Mn(II)-13.6 mg/g and for Cr(III)-33.2 mg/g. Therefore, the biomass of enriched alfalfa can be recommended as a feed supplement for horses.

Equine metabolic syndrome (EMS) is a metabolic disorder characterized by excessive obesity and or/regional adiposity, insulin resistance (IR) and prior or current laminitis. In the course of the EMS, an important role exert systemic inflammation caused by excessive expression of proinflammatory cytokines. The aim of the current investigation was to examine relationships between expression IL-6 and TNF-α in adipose tissue and their concentration in peripheral blood in horses with EMS. On the basis of range of research procedures, horses were divided into two groups: group A (EMS horses, n=8) and group B (healthy horses with overweight, n=8). The concentration of the proinflammatory cytokines in the peripheral blood and their expression in the adipose tissue were determined. The results of the EMS group showed numerous macrophages and lymphocytes infiltration and increased diameters of adipocytes (P<0.05). The concentration of TNF-α in the serum of insulin-resistant horses was statistically higher compared to the healthy individuals. No significant differences were observed between the EMS horses and the control horses in the concentration of IL-6 in the serum. Moreover, our research revealed expression of investigated cytokines in adipose tissue. The results shows a higher expression of TNF-α in the EMS groups. What is more, macrophages infiltration were observed. In the case of IL-6, were detected the similar arrangement of this cytokines in adipocytes between both test groups. The study indicates the importance of pro-inflammatory proteins TNF-α in the equine metabolic syndrome. EMS derslerinde, proinflamatuar sitokinlerin aşırı ekspresyonu ile oluşan sistemik inflamasyon uygulamada önemli rol oynadığı anlatılmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, adipoz dokuda sentezlenen ve periferal kanda bulunan, IL-6 ve TNF-α'nin EMS'li atlarda oluşan ilişkilerini incelemektir. Araştırmanın ana hedefine göre atlar esas olarak, iki gruba ayrıldı: Grup A (EMS atlar, n = 8) ve grup B (kilolu sağlıklı atlar, n = 8). Periferal kanda proinflamatuar sitokinlerinin konsantrasyonu ve bunların adipoz dokulardaki etkisi belirlenmiştir. EMS grubunun sonuçları, pek çok makrofaj ve lenfosit infiltrasyonu ve adipositlerin çaplarında artış (P<0.05 gösterdi. İnsüline dirençli atların serumunda TNF-α konsantrasyonu sağlıklı bireylere göre kıyaslandığında istatistiksel olarak yüksek sonuçlar görüldü. Serumdaki IL-6'nın konsantrasyonunu EMS'li atlarda ve kontrol grubu atlar arasında anlamlı farklar gözlendi. Ayrıca, araştırmada incelenen yağ dokularda sitokinlerin ekspresyonu saptandı.
