An Application of Fuzzy Control Based on PLC in Rubber Dam Monitoring System

Abstract: In this paper, a rubber dam monitoring system is presented taking the rubber dam in Linyi, Shandong province as an example. SIEMENS PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and fuzzy control which are used in the data acquisition unit of the system is to control the water level and the sluice with kinds of detection methods. The data exchanges between PC (Principal Computer) and PLC is implemented by WINCC to realize remote control. A fuzzy controller to control water level is introduced, which increases the accura… Show more

“…Figure 4: Methodology of the operation system Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) Based on the reviews done upon the previous papers, there are different methods been used in control system. Among the methods which have been proposed in their papers for control method are by using the fuzzy logic based method [3], microcontroller based method [4] and, programmable logic controller based method [5]. Based upon studies which have been carried out in order to find the most suitable control method for the monitoring system for Timah Tasoh Dam project, the result comes with the programmable logic controller based method which is highly preferred compared to other methods due to its advantages. The development of monitoring system for this project involves the use of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) software and Graphical User Interface (G.U.I) application.…”

“…But this PLC based system is costly and effectively applicable for major dams and not for small and medium dams like irrigation dams. Junmei Guo & Qingchun Chen also proposed a system using Fuzzy Logic in PLC/SCADA system [7] for the control of dam gate operation but since here too the PLC is used it can be suitable for major dams. Slivnik, T. Kodric, M.; Antauer, M. proposed a protection unit [8] for the dam gates which overcame some drawbacks of other existing system like not detecting anomalies, such as asymmetric movement of gates, faults in drive gearwheel etc.…”

“…Until no, no attempts have achieved this technology; however, many researchers have worked on ancient and traditional studies relevant to hydraulic gates, such as [1], which presented a rubber dam monitoring system for a dam constructed in Shandong Province. SIEMENS PLC employed fuzzy technology to control water levels.…”
