“…Notably, published Cd isotope data for birch leaves 13 and Cd-tolerant plants 14 exhibit a similar range of δ 114/110 Cd values (from -0.39 to 1.3‰) as were measured here for the plant parts (-0.12 to 0.97‰).…”

“…13,14 Cadmium is also known to sorb to the negatively 57 charged surfaces of the root apoplast [15][16][17] where it can also precipitate with phosphates. 18 In 58 the soil solution and in several plant parts, Cd is furthermore complexed by inorganic and 59 organic ligands.…”

“…However, batch number must be indicated when SPEX Cd is reported in different laboratories, because of the large difference in δ 114/110 Cd NIST SRM 3108 values obtained in different batches, for example δ 114/110 Cd NIST SRM 3108 of Spex‐1 are −0.09 ± 0.01 ‰ for Lot: 74‐075219K and −1.25 ± 0.06‰ for Lot: CL6‐30CDY relative to NIST SRM 3108 (Wei et al . , ). BAM I012 yielded a δ 114/110 Cd NIST SRM 3108 value of −1.31 ± 0.09‰ (2 s , n = 13) and a δ 112/110 Cd NIST SRM 3108 value of −0.66 ± 0.08‰ (2 s , n = 13), which is indistinguishable from value reported by previous studies (Abouchami et al .…”

“…Wei et al . (, ) reported that the δ 114/110 Cd NIST SRM 3108 value of Spex‐1 Cd solution (lot no. : 74‐075219K) relative to NIST SRM 3108 was −0.09 ± 0.01‰, and the value of GSB Cd relative to Spex‐1 Cd was −0.56 ± 0.03‰.…”

“…Cadmium isotopes have also been used to investigate ore deposit formation processes (e.g., Zhu et al , Wen et al , Zhu et al ) and marine cycling of Cd (e.g., Lacan et al , Ripperger et al , Abouchami et al , Conway and John ). In recent decades, Cd mass fractions in world‐wide soils have dramatically increased due to contamination from mining, smelting, electroplating, wastewater irrigation, and use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides (e.g., Ghosh and Singh , Zhang et al , Wei et al ). Previous studies have found that polluted materials have different Cd isotope compositions and, therefore, Cd isotopes can be used to trace sources of contamination (e.g., Cloquet et al , Gao et al , Pallavicini et al , Wen et al , Imseng et al ).…”
