An Analytical Method for Capacity Dimensioning of WCDMA with High Speed Wireless Link

Abstract: Capacity dimensioning is one of the key problems in wireless network planning. Analytical and simulation methods are usually used to pursue the accurate capacity dimensioning of wireless network. In this paper, an analytical capacity dimensioning method for WCDMA with high speed wireless link is proposed based on the analysis on relations among system performance and high speed wireless transmission technologies, such as H-ARQ, AMC and fast scheduling. It evaluates system capacity in closed-form expressions fr… Show more

“…Then the symbol rate can by calculated by: SF W R symbol (9) The bit rate can by calculated by multiplying the symbol rate by the number of bits per symbol, where the number of bits per symbol is determined by the modulation order (M), then the number of bits per symbol is log 2 (M). In order to determine the useful data rate, the redundant bits due to FEC coding must be removed by multiplying by the coding rate R c .…”

“…In actual system, the frame error probability and the HARQ retransmissions have to be taken into consideration, then the effective data rate will tend to: (11) Where N HARQ is the mean number of HARQ retransmissions, FER is the frame error rate. N HARQ and FER will be computed as described in [9].…”
