An analysis of voltage source inverter switches fault classification using short time Fourier transform

Abstract: <p>The dependability of power electronics systems, such as three-phase inverters, is critical in a variety of applications. Different types of failures that occur in an inverter circuit might affect system operation and raise the entire cost of the manufacturing process. As a result, detecting and identifying inverter problems for such devices is critical in industry. This study presents the short-time Fourier transform (STFT) for fault classification and identification in three-phase type, voltage sourc… Show more

“…The majority of faults that occur in the multi-level inverter are either in its switches or its control, for this it can be said that the reliability of power electronics becomes a serious problem [32], [33]. The faults that can occur in the physical semiconductor component of the IGBTs are themselves critical faults [34]. The faults are mainly related to an open or short circuit or to the control of the inverter itself.…”

“…In order to attenuates the fault detection errors due to external disturbances, some proposals are based on artificial intelligence (AI) systems such as vector support machines [13], neural networks [14], [15] or rulebased classifier [16]. These methods require an exhaustive training of the learning algorithms for the recognition of fault patterns through tests under different fault severities and operating conditions.…”

“…The performance of the proposed method is evaluated by simulation results for healthy and faulty cases. A study based on short-time Fourier transform for fault classification and identification in voltage source inverter (VSI) switches was proposed in [16]. The method aims to detect the switch faults in VSI based on a rule-based classifier.…”
