This study aimed to assess the impact of Women Development Funds scheme on women's livelihood in Tanzania. A cross-sectional research design was employed, and data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and documentary review from a sample of 85 respondents including, beneficiaries of women development fund loans and key informants. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS version 25, employing descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings indicated that women development funds significantly supported the beneficiaries who obtained loans. These beneficiaries were engaged in various small businesses such as tailoring, livestock keeping, and horticulture, leading to increased income and improved livelihoods. Notably the efforts and outcomes of women who received loans from the women development funds contributed to attitudinal change among men, as they recognized women’s dual role in household chores and their contribution to household livelihoods, challenging stereotypical gender roles. Despite these positive outcomes, beneficiaries of the loan encountered challenges, including lengthy loan access times, insufficient loan amount, limited entrepreneurship skills, and balancing household and businesses responsibilities. To enhance entrepreneurial success, it is recommended that relevant government institutions increase the loan amount and grace period, provide entrepreneurial skills training, and create a supportive business environment.

The combination of accelerated digitalization and the recent COVID-19 crisis has increased the number of remote workers worldwide to unimaginable proportions. Among the large number of remote workers that execute their projects from home, there is a significant number of permanently self-employed remote workers, usually referred to as freelancers. Despite the importance of this kind of business activity for modern project management society, perceived drivers of freelancing are still unknown. The goal of this paper was to shed some light on the general subjective well-being of freelancing activity and investigate differences concerning gender, age, and education. The study was performed in late 2020 and included 471 freelancers from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, and Montenegro that participated in an online questionnaire evaluating their subjective well-being while participating in the “gig” economy. Factor analysis was used as a primary statistical method and two major groups were identified: (1) Impact of working from home on a freelancer’s personal life and health and (2) Fulfillment of expectations in the economic and professional sense. Gender was found not to be significant for overall work satisfaction. However, older freelancers proved to be more satisfied with the fulfillment of economic and professional expectations, which correlate with years of professional experience. Another conclusion is that more educated freelancers are generally less satisfied with both groups of drivers - fulfillment of personal life and professional expectations. Understanding how the combination of occupations, technological infrastructure, and demographic characteristics in the region has affected the well-being of freelancers may help policymakers and organization owners, as well as future entrepreneurs, better prepare for this model of work in the future. It also increases the possibility of exploring individual dimensions of wellbeing useful for targeting interventions at the level of each country separately. In line with this, the present study contributes to the existing body of knowledge and the impact of hybrid models of work on the subjective well-being of workers in the “gig” economy.

The study was carried out to ascertain the poverty and food insecurity experience between food entrepreneurs and smallholder farmers in selected rural communities in Zambia. The study followed a mixed research design in which qualitative and quantitative data were collected through the use of a structured questionnaire. The Food Insecurity Experience Scale (FIES) was adopted in the design of the data collection questionnaire. Data were collected from 112 smallholder farmers in Chipapa, Shalubala, and Musomali villages and from 120 food entrepreneurs from Chisamba and Chibombo. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics through the use of means and frequencies, Levene's test, independent samples t-test, factor analysis, as well as arithmetic calculations. The results revealed that both the food entrepreneurs and smallholder farmers live in extreme poverty -US $0.74 per person per day at most. In addition, food access, availability, stability, and utilisation were the main challenges constraining the food intake for both smallholder farmers and food entrepreneurs. Therefore, both smallholder farmers and food entrepreneurs experience food stress equivalent to Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) 2.
