Critical thinking is a requisite skill for college success, employability, and conducive active civic participation. Empirical studies have noted to the low achievement of Arab students on critical thinking assessments. Insufficient endeavors have attempted to propose effective interventions enhancing critical thinking abilities among Arab students. The current analysis provides a preliminary overview of a special course designed to improve critical thinking skills among Arab college students. Results indicated a great improvement in all areas of critical thinking including explanation of information, identification of strategies, implementing solutions, and formulating logical inferences. Students’ scores on a critical thinking assessment increased from sufficient to good as a result of participating in the program. The gains are consistent after controlling for gender, major, class seniority, and nationality. Notwithstanding these promising results, this paper is limited in several respects including the choice of critical thinking assessments represented by two questions, the highly contextualized setting making it difficult to be replicated, and the convenient sampling strategy used to recruit participants. This set of limitations, however, does not discourage proactive attempts like designing special courses to enhance students’ critical thinking acquisition in the Middle East.

To explore the present status of Critical thinking and its relevant factors among undergraduates.A stratified random sampling was used to select 1013 undergraduates from 7 full-time colleges in Guangdong province. They were investigated with California Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory-Chinese Version (CTDI-CV) and a Self-Compiled Personal General Information Questionnaire. ⑴ The total score of CTDI-CV was (254.16±38.80). The undergraduates in the four levels of critical thinking of comprehensive strong, relatively strong, contradictory scope and serious opposition accounted for 1.78%, 5.31%, 87.4% and 5.51% of this group, respectively. (2) Multiple stepwise linear regression showed that the total score of CTDI-CV was positively correlated with the following 10 factors such as grade, family economic status, part-time experience, the teaching method used most commonly, like reading logic books, like reading reviews or essays, father’s warmth, mother’s warmth, openness and responsibility (β=.142 to .701，all P<.05). The following 5 factors such as father’s negation, father’s overprotection, mother’s negation, mother’s overprotection and neuroticism were negatively correlated with the total score of CTDI-CV (β=-.381 to -. 616, all P < 0.05). The overall level of critical thinking among undergraduates is relatively low. College Students' critical thinking may be related to many factors such as family rearing, school education and personal characteristics.

The article The article highlights the results of a pilot study of stylistic features of the thinking activity of student youth. It is noted that students come to institutions of higher education with formed features of thinking that affect cognitive activity, the prevailing thinking style leads to a certain advantage in the learning style, determines the dominant cognitive style in which a person receives and processes information. The following characteristics of thinking activity were subject to research: cognitive-active style in operating with ideas during cognitive activity, type of thinking and level of creativity, style of information acquisition, analyticity, reflexivity of thinking, rigidity of thinking and style of thinking. According to the results of the study, a significant variability of the manifestation of the characteristics of the respondents' thinking process and the individuality of their combination are noted. The idea of the need for such an organization of teaching methods is justified, which would ensure the effectiveness of information perception and processing, as well as provide the opportunity to display individuality in the output of the thinking process by students with different dominant characteristics of thinking to ensure their sense of ability and success in learning.
