An adaptive user interface based on personalized learning

Abstract: T he design and complexity of a software system's user interface largely determines the ease with which users can effectively operate that system. We have designed a dynamic, seamlessly personalized adaptive user interface: it reacts to different situations and requirements, and it learns individual users' behavior patterns as well as styles. Once the AUI records the events of humancomputer interaction and discovers patterns of user behavior, it can provide just-in-time assistance by predicting a user's most l… Show more

“…User modeling can make games a more individualized experience [9]. While there are many examples of practical work in adaptive interfaces [10], there is very little practical work done on the field of user modeling and user interface adaptation in educational games. A good example is a game S.C.R.U.B [11], the arcade-style game for learning microbiology.…”

“…It represents an important step toward user-centric interfaces but often fails to deliver a truly personalised experience [6,12]. Adaptive UX goes beyond customisation, employing the ability to understand user behaviours, preferences and context [14].…”

“…Conceptually, adaptive learning can be performed in three different non-disjoint ways: 1) personalization of the learning processes: where the learning process of each student is personalized according to the student profile and behavior [2][3], 2) content personalization: where the learning objects (or the courses) offered to the student (and the activities the student should do) are personalized according to the student experience [4][5] [6]; and 3) interface adaptation: where the learning management system interface is adapted according to every student's needs, preferences and history [7] [8].…”
