This study measures the service quality of university libraries of Pakistan from the user's perspective. The data were collected (N = 1,473) from undergraduate and graduate students and faculty members of 22 Pakistani universities through a locally modified LibQUAL+ survey in Urdu. Library users rated 22 core survey items on a scale of 1 (low) to 9 (high) in terms of minimum acceptable service quality, desired service quality, and perceived service quality. Study findings indicate that libraries overall do not meet users' minimum acceptable and desired levels of service quality. The zone of tolerance identified eight problematic services, most of which are related to the information control dimension. This study also indicates a wide gap between users' perceptions and expectations of service quality.

Objectives : To explore how the library service expectations and perceptions of users might differ across health-related libraries as against major research libraries not operating in a medical context; to determine whether users of medical libraries demand better library service quality, because the inability of users to access needed literature promptly may lead to a patient who cannot be properly diagnosed, or a diagnosis that cannot be properly treated. Methodology : We compared LibQUAL+® total and subscale scores across three groups of US, Canadian and British libraries for this purpose. Results : Anticipated differences in expectations for health as other library settings did not emerge. Conclusions : The expectations and perceptions are similar across different types of health science library settings, hospital and academic, and across other general research libraries.

The University of Florida Health Science Center Libraries created a task force representing various departments to review data from its 2004 LibQUAL+ survey. This review compared results from the 2002 and 2004 LibQUAL+ surveys, and the data from the Association of Academic Health Science Libraries 2004 cohort. The task force analyzed the key components of the LibQUAL+ survey: Affect of Service, Information Control, Library as Place, and user comments. At the conclusion of this review, the task force made recommendations and suggestions along departmental lines to meet the patrons' needs and expectations. In addition to following the task force recommendations, the Libraries independently implemented several new services and hired additional personnel after the completion of the 2004 survey. Combined, these changes should improve overall library service and increase customer satisfaction. Looking towards the 2006 LibQUAL+ survey, the task force will be convened in advance and will guide the entire process.
