Amphiphilic Hybrid π‐Conjugated Polymers Containing Polyhedral Oligomeric Silsesquioxanes

Abstract: Amphiphilic hybrid π-conjugated polymers that have polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes on their side chains have been successfully synthesized by the Sonogashira-Hagihara polycondensation reaction. The obtained polymers were studied with ultraviolet-visible absorption and photoluminescence spectra. In these polymers, the π-conjugation length was extended along the poly(p-phenylene-ethynylene) backbone. Furthermore, the content of the POSS substituents can influence the aggregation behavior of the polymers an… Show more

“…When a cyclopentyl POSS fragment was attached at the C-9 position to a polyfluorene via an OSiMe 2 linker, electroluminescent devices fabricated from the polyfluorene gave a deep blue emission and showed no evidence of aggregation or excimer formation . Similarly, terfluorene chromophores attached to a T 8 cage via an OSiMe 2 group gave an electroluminescent nanoparticle with good solubility and a higher external quantum yield compared with poly(dihexylfluorene) devices, and T 8 ( c -C 5 H 9 ) 7 (CH 2 ) 3 - substituents on π-conjugated polymers promote uniform dispersion and reduce aggregation, even in concentrated (5.0 × 10 −4 M) solution in CHCl 3 …”

“…[7][8][9][10][11] Thus, the POSS molecules with unique structures provide many possibilities and opportunities to tailor the properties of materials. 12,13 Many POSS-based hybrid nanocomposites with different architectures have been prepared such as linear or pendant type hybrids, [14][15][16][17] star type hybrids 18,19 and network type hybrids, [20][21][22] and their thermal properties and thermally enhanced mechanisms 23,24 were investigated. Various functional POSS-based materials have been designed and reported.…”

“…[11][12][13][14][15][16][17] For example, p-conjugated polymers containing polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes or polyoxometalate have shown high thermal, mechanical, oxidationresistance and electrochemical properties, as well as heat resistance. [18][19][20][21][22][23][24] Recently, we reported the synthesis of novel p-conjugated polymers with an icosahedral carborane cluster in their main chain, their great thermal durability and surprising optical properties, that is, aggregation-induced emission based on the molecular orbital of o-carborane. [25][26][27][28][29][30][31][32] Although the hybridization of p-conjugated polymers with inorganic clusters has given prominent results, the multistep synthesis of monomers containing inorganic clusters would have obstructed a thorough investigation in this field.…”
