Amphetamine Use, Physical Activity and Sport

Abstract: The use and abuse of amphetamines in athletic locker rooms apparently has not significantly decreased even though many controlling agencies have banned their usage for sports participation. Research findings do not conclusively indicate that amphetamine improves sport performance, strength, or cardio-respiratory endurance; however, slight gains in reaction time may be obtained. Documentation of amphetamine abuse and research findings of the amphetamines as they are related to sport performance are included.
