Amperometric Glucose Biosensor Based on Mediated Electron Transfer between Immobilized Glucose Oxidase and Plasma-polymerized Thin Film of Dimethylaminomethylferrocene on Sputtered Gold Electrode

Abstract: We propose an electron transfer-mediated amperometric enzyme biosensor based on plasma-polymerized thin film of dimethylaminomethylferrocene (DMAMF) on a sputtered gold electrode. The DMAMF plasma-polymerized film is deposited directly onto the surface of the electrode under dry conditions. The resulting thin film not only has redox sites but also is extremely thin (∼20 nm), adheres well onto the substrate (electrode), has a flat surface and a highly-crosslinked network structure, and is hydrophilic in nature.… Show more

“…The catalytic activity of GOD was also estimated by measuring the increase in current in the voltammograms after adding aliquots of glucose at a fixed potential of 0.43 V vs Ag/AgCl, which is close to the potential used in other GOD-based biosensors [31]. All the electrochemical measurements were performed at room temperature (23 • C).…”

“…Their applications are as enzyme amperomertric biosensors Kase and Muguruma, 2004), quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) biosensors (Wang et al, 2004a,b;Nakanishi et al, 1996) and surface plasmon resonance biosensors Nakamura et al, 1997). There are also advantages for fabrication strategy such as BioMEMS process (Bouaidat et al, 2004;Hanein et al, 2001;Hiratsuka et al, 2004) and inside wall coating for capillary electrophoresis Loughran et al, 2003).…”

“…14 Despite all that, the reagents which exhibit characteristic luminescence while oxidized by hydrogen peroxide are difficult to find, so their application is limited. Electrochemical methods for the determination of glucose are widely used 15 because of their high sensitivity and rapidity. However, they are expensive and easily suffer from some reductive substances such as vitamin C and uric acid.…”
