Ammonia volatilization from blends with stabilized and controlled-released urea in the coffee system

Abstract: Application of stabilized and controlled-release urea blends can reduce the losses of N-NH 3 as compared to conventional urea. The aim of this study was to quantify ammonia volatilization from conventional nitrogen fertilizers and blends of urea + (urea + NBPT) + controlled release urea applied in drip irrigated coffee system. The experiment was conducted under field conditions in in a Red Latosol located in Lavras-MG, Brazil. The randomized complete block design with six treatments: Urea = 450 kg ha

“…The total of N content is 39%, with 12% elemental sulfur. Polyblen Montanha ® differs from Polyblen Extend ® because it has a greater thickness of the coating layer (CHAGAS et al, 2016). 6) Urea + Polyurethane -It has 40% of N and 2% of K 2 O. Polyurethane coats the urea.…”

“…Subsequently, fertilization with 20g of P 2 O 5 + 6,72g of K 2 O pot -1 according to Chagas et al (2016), using triple superphosphate and potassium chloride as sources, was carried out which were homogenized to the soil on 06/22/2015. After that, the coffee plants were transplanted (two plants per pot), with pruning of the apical region of the root system.…”

“…Zavaschi et al () evaluating the volatilization of ammonia and corn yield components after application of polymer‐coated urea, concluded that polymer‐coated urea did not induce reduction in ammonia losses by soil volatilization. Chagas et al () evaluating the volatility of ammonia from total and stabilized mixtures and controlled coffee control, concluding that the ammonium nitrogen promotes the desalination of N–NH 3 by volatilization, independently of the nutritional conditions of each nitrogen fertilization. The use of a controlled reduction grid as N losses compared to a conventional urea.…”

“…A ureia é o principal fertilizante nitrogenado utilizado na agricultura, com participação de cerca de 64% (Chagas et al, 2016). Após a hidrólise da ureia podem ocorrer elevadas perdas de nitrogênio (N) por volatilização da amônia e por lixiviação de nitrato, especialmente em solos com elevada CTC (Fey et al, 2010;Bortolotto et al, 2012), contribuindo com os impactos ambientais negativos sobre o ambiente.…”
