Ameliorative effects of green tea extract from tannase digests on house dust mite antigen-induced atopic dermatitis-like lesions in NC/Nga mice

Abstract: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is one of the most common chronic inflammatory skin diseases, which is affected by several factors. Anti-histamines, steroids, and immunosuppressive agents have been used for the treatment of AD. However, many studies have reported that long-term use and abuse of these drugs causes many side effects. This study was performed to evaluate the ameliorative effect of green tea extract on AD-like lesions in NC/Nga mice. Green tea extract from tannase digest (GTT), beta-hexosaminidase, and his… Show more

“…The extracts used in this experiment are derived from apples, kale and green tea, and the edibility of the sources ensures that the extracts are natural, have very low risk of sensitization, and safety for long-term use because typical plant allergens such as sesquiterpene lactones, terpenes and polyacetylenes are not present in the extract [ 65 ]. It is frequently described that herbal, fruit or vegetable extracts are used in topical treatments [ 66 , 67 , 68 ]. Green tea extract contains high amounts of oligomeric proanthocyanidins such as epigallocatechin 3-gallate (EGCG)—a potent antioxidant with photo-protective properties.…”

“…Targeting of AD-related inflammatory mediators and antiinflammatory compounds are promising approaches for AD therapy (34). Previous studies reported that green tea extracts from tannase digests inhibited skin inflammation and mast cell infiltration in house dust mite antigen-induced AD-like lesions (35). Ethanol extracts of Ampelopsis brevipedunculata rhizomes inhibited an AD-like skin inflammation through downregulation of serum IgE levels and expression of TNF-a, interferon (IFN)-g, IL-4, IL-13, and IL-31 in a BALB/c AD model (36).…”

“…The study was approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee of Konkuk University (KU19108) and performed following the relevant guidelines and regulations. BALB/c mice were randomly divided into the following six groups ( n = 7 per group): the control group (CON group), AD-only group (0.25% DNCB sensitized in 200 µL 3:1 acetone/bean oil), AD + AA-L and AD + AA-H groups (30 and 75 mg/kg AA, respectively, in 100 µL sterilized drinking water), AA-H group (75 mg/kg AA, oral administration), and positive control AD + Pred group (5 mg/kg prednisolone (Youhanyanghaeng; Seoul, Korea) in 100 µL of sterilized drinking water) [ 16 ] ( Figure 1 ).…”
