Amelioration of Combustion of Hydrogen Rotary Engine

Abstract: Hydrogen rotary engines are promising power sources for the future hydrogen society, and improving their thermal efficiency helps propel tomorrow's car farther. This research looked into the combustion process to reduce fuel consumption. Primary studies of combustion duration and location showed that increasing the local mass burning rate in the L-side of the combustion chamber by generating turbulence was beneficial. Experiments with optical and real rotary engines proved that turbulence effectively increased… Show more

“…At present, many new solutions have been proposed to improve the incomplete combustion of WREs [12]. For example, the design of combustion chamber was optimized, the direct injection (DI) technology was adopted, and the flame propagation speed was improved by burning gas fuels such as hydrogen [13][14][15] and natural gas [16,17]. In addition, the lean burn and chamber optimization promise many advantages to improve the performance and combustion characteristics of WREs [18,19].…”

“…This situation provides a possibility of developing other types of IC engines having a smaller size, higher power density, and less CO 2 emissions. Wankel engines are characterised by their compact designs, low engine weight, and high power density; and they have been applied to some IC engine powered vehicles [5][6][7]. They are considered to be a promising power source of hybrid vehicles and range extender electric vehicles due to their inherent merits [8].…”
