Ambient Zinc K-Edge Extended X-Ray Absorption Fine Structure Studies on Solid Solution Hardening of the Ternary Alloys

Abstract: Solid solution hardening can be introduced in the zinc selenide by cationic substitution alloying. We are presenting our studies on gradual development of the hardening and the bond-length variations among the heavily Be-doped ternary alloys of Zn 1 Be Se. ese compositionally vivid ternary systems are grown by the Bridgman technique, and a set of careful measurements of synchrotron-based Zn core X-ray absorption spectroscopy are performed on the mixed alloy, which is followed by extraction of useful oscillati… Show more

“…Characterization techniques such as scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopic, energydispersive x-ray, x-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman scattering are mostly used to examine the lattice dynamics electronic and optical properties including dielectric properties, thermal expansion, thermal and electrical conductivity, diffusion mechanism and phase change phenomena [12,[17][18][19][20][21][22]. However, a very few studies have been dedicated to x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) technique to investigate the electronic and dynamic properties of ZnSe [23][24][25]. The better understanding of all properties of this material leads to its most use for various applications.…”

“…Among these heavier elements, there are several transition metals of particular interest to researchers, i.e., Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, as well as their oxides [ 14 , 15 ] and compounds [ 16 , 17 , 18 , 19 , 20 , 21 , 22 ]. These interests are related to their magnetic [ 23 , 24 ], optical [ 25 ], as well as conductive and semi-conductive [ 20 , 21 , 26 ] properties, which in turn translate to possible applications in catalytic, photocatalytic and photoelectrocatalytic (PEC) processes [ 14 , 27 , 28 , 29 ], as electrodes in photovoltaic cells and lithium-ion batteries [ 30 , 31 , 32 ], optoelectronic and plasmonic devices [ 15 , 25 , 33 ], gas sensors [ 34 ] or drug delivery [ 16 , 35 ].…”
