Alternatives to a table of criterion values in signal detection theory

Abstract: Gardner, Dalsing, Reyes, and Brake (1984) where Hand F are the ordinates of the standard normal distribution at the points where the tail areas of the distribution are equivalent to the hit rate and the false-alarm rate, respectively. That is, H is the ordinate of the signalplus-noise distribution at the criterion, and F is the ordinate of the noise-alone distribution at the criterion. Gescheider (1985, chap. 4) and Hochhaus (1972) concisely described computation of {3.To test the accuracy of the Gardner et … Show more

“…Many authors (e.g., Brophy, 1986) suggest using the formula However, this can be rewritten as False-alarm rate z score plotting the ROC curve in z space, where the axes are z scores rather than probabilities (see Figure 3). Continuing this analogy, the slope and intercept of the line that best fits the z scores in z space are found.…”

“…Trained and untrained object trials were analysed, signal detection theory sensitivity index's d' was used as the primary dependent measure (Brophy, 1986). Additionally analyses of RTs were also undertaken, but for ease of exposition are only reported where relevant.…”
