Alternatives of storage of corn grains for the conditions of the brazilian cerrado

Abstract: ABSTRACT:The storage of grains under technical conditions in favorable environment ensures grain quality and regulates the supply of raw material for food production. For this reason, the objective of this study was to evaluate the different forms of storage (aerated silo, non-aerated silo, silo bags and airtight) of grains produced in the Brazilian cerrado, over time (zero, three and six months), for different physical qualities of maize (normal grains, whole grains and broken grains). The research was conduc… Show more

“…It is the final consequence of a deterioration process, as verified by a decrease in vigor, or by an increase in electrical conductivity values. Grain germination potential can be explained by the low water content in grains when stored (Alencar et al, 2009;Coradi et al, 2016a).…”

“…However, improved performance of the crops did not reflect in the post-harvest operations, whereas caused more losses and reduced initial quality of the agricultural products (Quirino et al, 2013;Coradi et al, 2016a).…”

“…In view of this, even the product being harvested with relatively lower water content, such as 19% its ability to undergo deteriorating processes is still present when temporarily stored in an unsuitable environment, since the variations of temperature and relative humidity dictate the deteriorating intensity, the water content allows the respiratory process to occur, and the period has the ability to accentuate such deleterious activity (Coradi et al, 2016).…”

“…It was possible to observe that, despite harvesting the product with relatively lower moisture content (19%), its aptitude to undergo deterioration processes is still present when stored in an inadequate environment, since the variations of temperature and relative humidity drive deterioration intensity, moisture content allows the occurrence of the respiratory process, and time can accentuate such deleterious activity (Bento et al, 2012;Coradi et al, 2016).…”

“…One example of this refers to increasing qualiquantitative losses observed every year, because the harvested material temporarily remains stored in the trucks, vulnerable to the attack of pathogens and intensification of deterioration processes. Since the uncontrolled environmental conditions and oscillations of temperature and relative humidity directly interfere with the metabolic activity of the product and of the microflora associated with it, the increase in the consumption of dry matter as well as the increment in the values of rotten, moldy and germinated grains are commonly observed (Del Campo et al, 2014;Coradi et al, 2015Coradi et al, , 2016.…”
