Alternative time marching process for BEM and FEM viscoelastic analysis

Abstract: SUMMARYBased on the weighted residual technique, both Finite Element and Boundary Element alternative procedures for viscoelastic analysis are proposed. After imposing the space approximations, applying the kinematical relations for material and strain velocities at the approximation level, the time integration is carried out using appropriate operators. The Kelvin-Voigt viscoelastic model is implemented in order to validate the idea. The Newmark ÿ time integral scheme is applied to the Finite Element procedur… Show more

“…Recently we developed an alternative time integration procedure to represent the simple Kelvin viscoelastic model [16,17]. One can see from these works that neither formulations are able to model instantaneous behaviour of materials, which is very important in most applications.…”

“…Using constitutive differential equations for viscoelastic models Coda and his co-workers presented a quasi-stationary formulation based on cell discretization for the Kelvin [43] and for the Boltzmann [42] viscoelastic models. This formulation leads to a matrix differential equation, the solution of which does not require the storage of a new system matrix at every time step.…”
