“…A total of 416 miRNAs were obtained from samples, 343 of which are known miRNAs and 73 are newly predicted miRNAs. Our research group has nished revealing the expression of miRNAs in porcine anterior pituitary cells and found that miRNAs could regulate the hormone secretion from the anterior pituitary [43,108,109]. Interestingly, we found most of top 20 miRNAs like miR-7, miR-375, let-7a, let-7c, miR-26a, miR-30a, let-7g, miR-30d, miR-127, miR-151, miR-21, miR-149, miR-99a, miR-143 in exosome were also highly expressed in the porcine pituitary [110].…”

“…More recently, miRNA expression profiles were analyzed in the rat pituitary from postnatal development throughout the entire lifespan showing that specific mi-RNAs are differentially expressed during pituitary development [43]. In addition, there is evidence that GH synthesis and release are also regulated by miRNAs in mammals [44], as documented below.…”

“…Among these miRNAs, miR-361-5p and miR-127 were regulated in opposite ways under the two treatments, suggesting a potential role in GH regulation which still needs further investigation. Interestingly, let-7c, which was upregulated under CST treatment, negatively regulated GH production and release, directly targeting GH1 and GHRH [44] (Table 1). DOI: 10.1159/000504669…”

“…miRs are evolutionarily conserved, small single-stranded molecules (20-24 nucleotides), that have been postulated to regulate the expression of approximately 50% of the genes in a cell at the post-transcriptional level [62,63]. In contrast to other endogenous small RNAs, miRNAs derive from transcripts forming distinctive hairpin structures [64].…”
