The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of selective logging on the growth dynamics of Araucaria angustifolia in a natural forest of Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil. Treatments were based on percentage reduction of the basal area per DBH class, namely, T0 (control) = 0%; T1 (light selective logging) = reduction of 20-30%; T2 (moderate selective logging) = reduction of 40-50%. Data were obtained prior to the management interventions and four, eight and 13 years after selective logging. Changes between treatments were assessed using the following parameters: absolute density, absolute dominance, importance value index, and growth rates. Results show that population reduction and canopy opening provided greater recruitment and higher growth rates for araucaria in the management treatments (T1 and T2) compared with those of the control treatment (T0). These results reinforce that management practices are necessary for the continuous development of araucaria in this forest formation.

Este trabalho objetivou analisar as alterações na composição florística e estrutura horizontal em um fragmento de Floresta Ombrófila Mista, localizado na Floresta Nacional (FLONA) de Irati, Paraná, Brasil, assim como compará-lo quanto à florística e estrutura de outros fragmentos florestais localizados em FLONAs da região sul do país. Todos os indivíduos com diâmetro à altura do peito maior ou igual a 10 cm (DAP ≥ 10 cm) foram identificados e mensurados ao longo de nove anos. A floresta apresentou elevada riqueza de espécies ao longo do período de monitoramento e pequenas alterações em relação a sua composição florística e estrutura horizontal. As divergências florístico-estruturais entre os fragmentos utilizados para comparação com o presente estudo se devem principalmente à grande heterogeneidade intrínseca a esta fitofisionomia, como também ao aumento da dissimilaridade em função do distanciamento geográfico.Palavras-chave: análise multivariada; composição florística; fitossociologia; Floresta com Araucária. DYNAMICS OF FLORISTIC AND HORIZONTAL STRUCTURE IN A FRAGMENT OF MONTANE MIXED OMBROPHYLOUS FOREST ABSTRACT: The aim of this research was to analyze the changes on the floristic composition and horizontal structure in an Araucaria Forest fragment, located in the Irati National Forest (FLONA), Paraná State, Brazil, as well as comparing it to the floristic and structure of other forest fragments located in FLONAs of the southern region of the country. All the individuals with diameter at breast height equal or larger than 10 cm (DBH ≥ 10 cm) were identified and measured for nine years. The forest presented a high number of species during the monitoring period and few changes in floristic composition and horizontal structure. The floristic-structural divergences among the fragments used for comparison with the present study are mainly due to the great heterogeneity intrinsic to this phytophysiognomy, as well as to the increase of dissimilarity due to geographic distance.Keywords: Araucaria forest; floristic composition; multivariate analysis; phytosociology.

Este trabalho objetivou caracterizar um erval nativo por procedimentos silviculturais, de produtividade e densidade de Ilex paraguariensis St.-Hil. (erva-mate) e caracterizar quanto à florística, fitossociologia e estrutura diamétrica do remanescente florestal. Para identificar os procedimentos silviculturais, utilizou-se entrevista semiestruturada. A produtividade foi determinada pela biomassa comercial de I. paraguariensis. Para a análise da vegetação, foram instaladas duas unidades amostrais permanentes, somando 1,25 ha, onde foram considerados todos os indivíduos com circunferência a 1,30 m do solo (CAP) ≥ 31,4 cm, dos quais se registrou o CAP, a identificação botânica e as coordenadas XY na parcela, além de todos os indivíduos de erva-mate compondo o sistema produtivo. Os procedimentos silviculturais se caracterizaram pela roçada, abertura do dossel e condução da regeneração natural, favorecendo I. paraguariensis e Araucaria angustifolia (Bert.) Kuntze, além da criação de gado bovino. A densidade de I. paraguariensis foi de 634 árv.ha-1, com produtividade de 2.030 kg.ha-1 em colheitas trienais. Foram encontradas 22 espécies, com predominância de Myrtaceae e Aquifoliaceae. A espécie de maior valor de importância e de cobertura foi A. angustifolia e a distribuição diamétrica mostrou maior concentração de indivíduos nas menores classes.
