Alpha‐methyl‐dopa (Aldomet®) in the Treatment of Hypertension

Abstract

Blood volume, exchangeable sodium, body weight and blood pressure were studied in ten hypertensive patients after 14 days of therapy with alpha‐methyl‐dopa (Aldomet®). There was a significant increase in blood volume and a significant decrease in blood pressure. Changes in exchangeable sodium and body weight were small and non‐significant. One patient, however, developed cardiac pulmonary edema after one week of therapy.
