“…Therefore, as shown in Figures 11 and 12, the alpha-case composition on the Ti castings surface was confirmed using the EPMA elemental mapping with Al, Si, O, Ti, B and C. Figure 11 shows that the Al concentration clearly increased by approximately 20 μm on the casting surface of the Al 2 O 3 mould. Compared with previous research, 15,16 Al concentration depth of TMCs with Al 2 O 3 mould is much less than pure Ti melts with Al 2 O 3 mould. This might be caused by the presence of fine TiB reinforcements of TMCs that reduce the contact area of Ti matrix melts against Al 2 O 3 mould.…”

“…This was followed by a coating of primary Al 2 O 3 , and Ti powder-added Al 2 O 3 slurry to achieve the alpha-case controlled TMCs casting and chamotte backup was done. 15,16 The completely dried wax was removed from the shells using an autoclave (423 K, 0.5 MPa) after coating the shells. The investment mould was cured at 1223 K for 2 h in the furnace, to strengthen the mould, eliminate the remaining wax and dehydrate the moulds.…”

“…При додаванні порошку Ті в керамічні форми на основі Al 2 O 3 , ZrSiO 4 та ZrO 2 [43] товщина альфованого шару титанових виливків була значно зменшена (приблизно з 350 до 50-100 мкм), і також зменшена їх поверхнева твердість. Причому найкращі результати показала корундова форма, що пояснюється різною реакційною здатністю між порошком Ti та оксидами форми.…”

“…Although α‐case decreased after Ti casting, several pores formed in the composites, which considerably reduced the thermal shock resistance and mechanical strength. Lee and Kim prepared Ti–Al 2 O 3 , TiO 2 –Al 2 O 3 , Ti–ZrSiO 4 , and Ti–ZrO 2 composites by introducing Ti at high temperatures 21‐23 . A TiO diffusion barrier layer was produced in Ti–Al 2 O 3 and TiO 2 –Al 2 O 3 composites, which hindered the α‐case formation at the surface of Ti alloys.…”
