“…In addition, the relative abundance of three members of the phylum Firmicutes (Clostridium_sensu_stricto_1, Ruminococcaceae_UCG-014, and Clostridium_sensu_stricto_6) and norank_o_Mollicutes_RF9 exhibited significantly lower levels (P < 0.01, P < 0.05, respectively) at 21 dpi in the PCV3inoculated piglets compared to that in sham-inoculated piglets, which reduced the ratio of Firmicutes to Bacteroidetes phyla and finally weakened the capacity to obtain energy from diet, thereby, leading to weight loss (Ley et al, 2006;Henning et al, 2019;Jiang et al, 2019;Li et al, 2019). Moreover, Blantia, Coprococcus, and unclassified_f_Lachnospiraceae displayed positive anti-inflammatory effects, resulting in the weakening of inflammatory responses (Jenq et al, 2015;Di Iorio et al, 2019;Lee et al, 2020) and exhibiting a marked increase in PCV3-inoculated piglets at 28 dpi compared to those in shaminoculated piglets (P < 0.01, P < 0.05). These results explain the downregulation of inflammatory cytokines, such as TNF-α or IL-6, in the later stage of PCV3 infection (Jiang et al, 2019).…”

“…Fecal acetate, propionate, and butyrate were determined with gas chromatography. Fecal samples were extracted using methyl ether with 4-methyl-n-valeric acid (Sigma) as an internal standard according to the method described previously [27]. The extracts were dissolved in 1 M of phosphoric acid before being injected into the gas chromatograph (GC-2014; Shimadzu Corp., Kyoto, Japan) fitted with a glass capillary column (0.25 mm × 30 m, Stabilwax-DA, Restek Corp., Bellefonte, PA, USA) and a flame ionization detector.…”

“…Typically, Lactobacillus salivarius BP121 suppresses the generation of uremic toxins and regulates AMPK- and TLR4-dependent TJ assembly, thus protecting against cisplatin-induced AKI by downregulating renal inflammatory mediators and decreasing the oxidative stress [ 71 ]. Lactobacillus mix addition also decreases the production of proinflammatory cytokines (TNF-α and IL-6) and prevents renal proximal tubular cell apoptosis in a cisplatin-induced renal injury in pig model [ 72 ]. Moreover, Bifidobacteria is another widely used probiotic along with Lactobacilli in kidney diseases [ 73 , 74 ].…”
