Allergic rhinitis (AR) is a common disease that causes severe inflammation and even disabilities. Previous studies have reported baicalein to have an anti-inflammatory effect. However, the pharmacological action of baicalein on anaphylaxis has not been clarified yet. This study assessed the in vivo protective effect of baicalein post-treatment in an ameliorating ovalbumin (OVA)-sensitized AR rat model. Baicalein attenuated histological alterations, aberrant tissue repair and inflammation after OVA-induced AR. Baicalein reduced the frequency of nasal/ear rubs and sneezes in rats, and inhibited generation of several inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6) in both blood and nasal lavage of rats. Infiltrations of eosinophils, lymphocyte, and neutrophils were decreased in baicalein-administered rats. Furthermore, baicalein inhibited the expression of STAT3 phosphorylation in the nasal mucosa. In summary, baicalein attenuated OVA-induced AR and inflammation, which suggests it as a promising therapeutic agent for the alleviation of AR-associated inflammation and pathology.

The article highlights the urgent problem of modern medicine - allergic diseases. Over the past decades, there has been a significant increase in the prevalence of this pathology, the share of which in the general structure of the incidence of the population remains high to this day. The statistics are staggering. According to various sources, various manifestations of allergies affect from 10% to 40% of the world’s population. According to conservative estimates, more than 500 million people in the world. According to epidemiological studies, the amount of atopy is growing by 5-6% every year. The disease has a huge impact on the quality of life of the patient. Needless to say, an allergic disease can be accompanied by complications, including life-threatening. The big financial burden on the budget of our country is the economic costs of combating allergies and its complications. Therefore, the treatment of this nasology is one of the key issues both in the global and in Russian healthcare.Intranasal (topical) corticosteroids (IKS) are the drug of choice in the treatment of patients diagnosed with allergic rhinitis (AR). However, ICS are widely used in clinical practice and in the treatment of other diseases of the nose and paranasal sinuses. Depending on the nature of the pathological process, the duration of the drug can vary widely: from two weeks to several months or years. The purpose of this work is to systematize relevant publications and analyze possible uses for this group of drugs. The article reflects the issues of epidemiology, etiopathogenesis of allergic rhinitis. Consistently considered modern methods of treatment, in particular the use of (ICS) in therapy regimens. The results of international multicenter randomized controlled clinical trials are presented, the purpose of which was to determine and evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of ICS, in particular fluticasone propionate. It is concluded that fluticasone propionate is a modern and effective agent for the pathogenetic treatment of patients with not only allergic but also non-allergic rhinitis and can be recommended in the modern treatment regimen for both allergic and non-allergic rhinitis.

Alternative methods for controlling nasal obstruction in children

Currently, rhinitis accompanied by nasal obstruction is one of the most common diseases in children and adolescents. Regardless of the cause of its occurrence - an infectious or non-infectious (allergic) process, each time there is a vascular (vasomotor) reaction. In children of preschool and primary school age, the most common is infectious rhinitis, which develops with viral and bacterial infections. The group of non-allergic rhinitis, which develops more often in adolescents, is united by the term idiopathic (vasomotor) rhinitis.Purpose of the study. Evaluation of the effectiveness of the use of a complex preparation containing calendula, witch hazel, esculus, menthol and zinc oxide in the treatment of vasomotor rhinitis in children.Materials and methods. The study included 40 patients of childhood and adolescence, of both sexes (23 girls and 17 boys) aged 6 to 14 years with an established diagnosis of vasomotor (idiopathic) rhinitis, without concomitant pathology, not registered with specialists, without constant admission The study drug was used to lubricate the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity or put turundas with ointment for 3-5 minutes 2-3 times a day. The course of treatment was 7-10 days. The effectiveness of treatment was assessed by the dynamics of clinical data and the severity of the subjective symptoms of the disease.Results. A comparisons of these scores for re-assessing the status of patients relative to the timing of the study drug use showed a uniform positive trend in terms of the clinical picture and subjective complaints of patients.Conclusions. The inclusion in the complex therapy of pediatric patients with idiopathic (vasomotor) rhinitis of the drug Fleming’s Ointment, or monotherapy with this agent, contributes to a rapid and pronounced weakening of the clinical manifestations of the disease, allowing you to quickly achieve positive treatment results in the form of relief of nasal obstruction, rhinorrhea, edema of the mucous membrane of the cavity nose, sneezing. There is a positive trend in the state of the mucous membrane itself.
