RESUMO -(Efeitos alelopáticos de extratos aquosos de Aristolochia esperanzae O.Kuntze sobre desenvolvimento de plântulas de Sesumum indicum L.). Aristolochia esperanzae é uma trepadeira que ocorre no cerrado do sudeste do Brasil. Os objetivos deste trabalho foram de identifi car os efeitos dos extratos aquosos de A. esperanzae sobre a germinação, crescimento da raiz e de células do xilema de plântulas de gergelim. Extratos de folhas, caule e raiz foram preparados nas concentrações de 1,5 e 3,0%. Os extratos causaram alterações na germinação e no crescimento das plântulas com inibição maior causada pelos extratos de raízes. Observou-se mudanças morfológicas e decréscimo no crescimento e desenvolvimento das plântulas de gergelim. Os extratos de A. esperanzae causaram uma inibição de até 50% no tamanho das células do xilema das raízes e mudanças na raiz primária e no número de raízes secundárias. The aim of this work was to identify the effects of aqueous extracts of A. esperanzae on germination, root growth and xylem cell development of sesame seedlings. Leaf and shoot extracts were prepared at concentrations of 1.5 and 3%. Extracts caused marked changes in germination and seedling growth with greatest inhibition produced by root extracts. Morphological changes and decreased growth and development of seedlings were also observed. The extracts of A. esperanzae caused a reduction of 50% in the size of root xylem cells and marked changes in the primary root and in the number of secondary roots.

ABSTRACT(Responses in germination and early growth of radish under the infl uence of an aqueous extract of Piper mikanianum (Kunth) Steudel). Th is study evaluated the allelopathic eff ects of an extract from P. mikanianum leaves on the germination and early growth of radish (Raphanus sativus L.). Leaf extracts were prepared at concentrations of 2, 4 and 8%. Th e pH and osmotic potential of the extracts were determined. Germination bioassay consisted of fi ve replicates of 25 radish seeds distributed in Petri dishes with germitest paper and 7 mL of extract or water, and were kept at 25°C in B.O.D. for fi ve days. Germination percentage (PG), germination speed (VG), germination speed index (IVG) and index of allelopathic eff ect (RI) were determined. For bioassay initial growth, seeds were germinated until the protrusion of the radicle was 2 mm and transferred to Gerbox boxes containing germitest paper and 15 mL of extract or water, which were kept for seven days at 25°C in B.O.D. to evaluate the length of the radicle and hypocotyl, fresh and dry mass, water content and chlorophyll content (a, b and total). Leaf extracts from P. mikanianum negatively aff ected all parameters examined for germination (PG, VG, IVG and RI). Th e extracts aff ected the initial growth, causing reduction of the radicle length and stimulating the growth of the hypocotyl. In addition, the extracts at 8% concentration reduced fresh weight and water content. Extracts at concentrations of 2 and 4% increased the content of chlorophyll b and total chlorophyll. Th us, Piper mikanianum exerted an allelopathic eff ect on radish.

Laboratory experiments were conducted to evaluate the allelopathic effects of different concentrations (5, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50%) of Calotropis procera (Aiton) W.T. leaf aqueous extract, using different indices for germination, seedling and physical growth of wheat (Triticum aestivum) and Black mustard (Brassica nigra). Except for germination speed, results indicated that the extracts have such allelopathic potential which can significantly reduce the total germination percentage, germination Index, seedling vigor and certain growth parameters like shoot and root length and leaf area of the two tested plants. The rate of inhibition is concentration dependent. The present results mirror what happens under field conditions, where bare patches of neighbouring plants with different sizes or poor regeneration around C. proceara was observed.
