Allelopathic effect of Dendrocalamus stocksii (Munro.) on growth and yield of ground nut (Arachis hypogaea)

Abstract: The present study was conducted to assess allelopathic effect of Dendrocalamus stocksii (Munro.) on the growth and yield of ground nut (Arachis hypogaea). Bamboo leaf leachate was prepared by soaking the dry leaves in tap water for 24 hours in a ratio of 1:10 w/v.  Using prepared leachate as stock solution the leachate of various concentrations viz., control (0%), 25, 50 and 75 and 100 per cent were prepared by adding tap water accordingly. The results revealed the concentration-dependent significant (p=0.05) … Show more

“…Tree litter can release phytotoxic exudates into the soil, restricting germination (Rawat et al, 2017) and growth vigor of surrounding plants (Garima and Devi, 2017). Limonoids (De Leo et al, 2018;Zhang et al, 2019) and several phenolic compounds (Samaradivakara et al, 2016;Tandon and Sand, 2016) predominate among metabolites of Australian red cedar.…”

“…Generally, bamboos grow and spread fast (Cao et al 2011), a trait that can crowd out native plant species. The allelopathic secretions of various bamboo species can also prohibit the growth of the nearby plant species (Chou and Yang 1982;Chou 1999;Rawat et al 2017). However, ornamental bamboos should be protected against invasive herbivorous insects that could be distributed along with their host plant material in botanical gardens in Europe.…”

“…Accordingly, a stock solution of 10 g / 100 mL was prepared and used at 10% concentrations. Then, different diluted aqueous extract concentrations (2.5%, 5.0%, 7.5%, and 10.0%) were prepared separately by soaking a corresponding 2.5 g, 5.0 g, and, 7.5 g of dry powdered leaves in 100 mL of distilled water respectively following the methods used by Rawat et al (2018a). An equal amount of stock-free distilled water was used as a control treatment.…”

In total, ve concentration treatments (0, 2.5, 5, 7.5, and 10% concentration levels) were prepared following the methods used for bamboo species by different authors (Rawat et al, 2016(Rawat et al, , 2017(Rawat et al, , 2018aMoura et al 2018).…”
