Piptocarpha angustifolia is a potential native species for Brazilian forestry. However, a lot of challenges and technical constraints persist, hindering its expansion as a species for forest plantations, among them, the lack of evaluation of their survival and growth in field conditions. Thus, we evaluated the survival and growth vigor of Piptocarpha angustifolia according to two initial heights of mini-cuttings at planting. Plants from mini-cuttings with 20 ± 5 cm and 40 ± 5 cm were planted in field using 3 × 2 m spacing. In these, we evaluated the survival, base diameter and total height during 24 months. The experiment was implemented in a completely randomized design in a split plot model. Plants of 20 ± 5 cm are superior in survival to 40 ± 5 cm ones. The growth in height and diameter remained constant up to 24 months, reaching 64.1 cm and 13.5 mm, independently of the plants expedition time. In general, the establishment of clonal plantation of Piptocarpha angustifolia was limited by the attack of pests, mainly cutting ants. For this reason, plantation of this species must take into account the possibility of greater pest control. SILVICULTURA CLONAL DE Piptocarpha angustifolia: SOBREVIVËNCIA E VIGOR DE CRESCIMENTO A CAMPORESUMO: Piptocarpha angustifolia (vassourão-branco) é uma espécie nativa potencial para a silvicultura brasileira. No entanto, uma série de desafios e limitações técnicas ainda persistem, dificultando sua expansão como espécie para plantios florestais, dentre eles, a falta de avaliação de sua sobrevivência e crescimento em condições de plantio a campo. Assim, o presente estudo objetivou avaliar a sobrevivência e o vigor de crescimento em condições de pleno sol a campo de mudas clonais de Piptocarpha angustifolia em função da altura inicial das mudas, no momento do plantio. Mudas provenientes de miniestaquia com 20 ± 5 cm e 40 ± 5 cm de altura foram plantadas a campo em espaçamento 3 × 2 m. Nestas, foram avaliadas a sobrevivência, o diâmetro da base e a altura total ao longo de 24 meses. O experimento foi conduzido num delineamento inteiramente casualizado, em parcelas subdivididas no tempo. Mudas de 20 ± 5 cm mostraram-se superiores em sobrevivência às de 40 ± 5 cm. O crescimento em altura e diâmetro manteve-se constante até os 24 meses, alcançando 64,1 cm e 13,5 mm, independente da altura de expedição das mudas. De modo geral, o estabelecimento de plantios clonais de Piptocarpha angustifolia foi limitado pelo ataque de pragas, principalmente formigas cortadeiras. Por essa razão, a recomendação de plantios desta espécie precisa levar em conta a possibilidade de um maior controle de pragas.

ResumoEste trabalho teve como objetivo determinar a influência de diferentes populações e árvores portasementes na qualidade física e fisiológica das sementes de Piptocarpha angustifolia (vassourão-branco). Selecionaram-se três populações no planalto norte de Santa Catarina, Brasil, coletando-se as cipselas de doze árvores porta-sementes por população. Avaliou-se pureza, umidade, peso, dimensões, germinação, emergência e vigor das cipselas. Os ensaios obedeceram a um delineamento inteiramente casualizado em arranjo fatorial de forma hierárquica. As diferenças entre populações e árvores porta-sementes foram testadas pela ANOVA, e as médias submetidas ao teste de Tukey e Scott-Knott. Foram necessárias amostras de trabalho de 1,29 g de cipselas para o teste de pureza. A espécie possui em média 1.545.104 cipselas.kg -1 , diferindo entre árvores porta-sementes. As cipselas medem, em média, 0,62 mm de largura, 3,26 mm de comprimento e 0,58 mm de espessura, dimensões que diferem conforme a árvore porta-sementes. A germinação é de 5,64%, independentemente da árvore porta-sementes e da população. O tempo médio de germinação é de 25 dias, diferindo entre árvores porta-sementes. A emergência média de 5,28% independe de populações e árvores porta-sementes. O tempo médio de emergência é de 71 dias, que difere entre árvores portasementes. Abstract Physical and physiological quality of Piptocarpha angustifolia Dusén ex Malme seeds in differents populations and seed-bearer trees.The objective of this research work was to determine the influence of different populations and seed-bearer trees on the physical and physiological quality of Piptocarpha angustifolia (vassourão-branco) seeds.
